4th Grade

I am excited to be at Stadium Drive Elementary!  I have been part of Lake Orion Community Schools since 1995, as I began my career student-teaching at Webber Elementary.  I have worked at Blanche Sims and Paint Creek Elementary teaching 3rd grade.  This year I look forward to working with 4th graders.  I received both my bachelor and graduate degrees from Oakland University.  While I enjoy teaching all the subjects, I have always had a passion to understand the reading process.  My hope each year is to get my students excited about reading!  I believe the best part of my job is working with your children.  I love helping and watching them grow as learners.  I always find myself amazed at what they teach me too!

I proudly come to Stadium Drive to begin my tenth year of teaching. My teaching career began in the Berkley School District at Angell Elementary. I hold the relationships and teaching experiences very close to my heart but as our family started to grow so did my desire to teach closer to home. I started to look for openings in Lake Orion and our neighboring communities and luckily I ended up getting hired to teach fifth grade at Blanche Sims in 2012!

Last year my husband Dave and I welcomed our third child, Julianne. We also have a Stadium first grader named Gianna and a three-year-old son named Andrew. Being at home was a precious time, but I truly missed being in the classroom. Ever since I walked the halls of Stadium Drive as a child I’ve wanted to be a teacher.

Regarding my education, I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Michigan State University as well as a Master of Arts in Education from Michigan State. My goal is to instill a lifelong passion for learning within your child. I believe that the home-school connection is a critical one and look forward to working with you to ensure that your child has a successful year filled with motivation, engagement and hard work!

Hello! My name is Theresa Ratkowiak. I have been teaching at Stadium Drive Elementary School of the Arts for five years. I love teaching and the excitement that each day brings. There is no greater joy for me than when I see my students' excitement about their learning. I remember as a child the excitement I would feel when gaining a new understanding of something and feeling the greatest sense of triumph. I also recall moments when I may have not understood an idea, yet my wonderful teachers helped me to get from uncertainness to accomplishment.  My ultimate goal is to be one of those teachers that inspires students to want to learn more and to develop a sense of perseverence to achieve their personal best!
