St. Jude' Math-a-thon
Scripps Middle School is very proud of the generosity of our students and their families. Our donations will help St. Jude to continue its life-saving work of research and treatment for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. It is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance. Our grand total for this year is $3000!!
Teens for Jeans Drive
Scripps collected over 130 pairs of jeans during the Annual Teens for Jeans Drive! Thank you to all who were able to donate and help out young people in need. Looking forward to next year’s campaign where we will hopefully be able to bring in even more pairs of jeans.
Honors Band Participation
Scripps had several 8th graders selected to participate in various local Honors Bands this year. In November, 2 students were selected for the Wayne State University Honors Band. In March, 9 students were selected for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Civic Middle School Honors Band. In April, 7 students participated in the MSBOA District 4 Honors Band.
Band Festival Results
In March, both the 7th Grade Band and the 8th Grade Cadet Band receiving the highest possible ratings at MSBOA District Band Festival. The Cadet Band received straight A’s in Sight Reading, and 12 A’s and 3 B’s in Concert. The 7th Grade Band received 19 A’s (some A+’s) and one B+ in Concert.
Scripps Middle School is once again a Michigan Green School. Students, staff, and community members partnered to reduce, reuse, and recycle, making Scripps Middle School and Lake Orion a greener place to live. Projects included recycling, adopting endangered species, and advocating for the environment. Scripps is proud to be an Emerald School!
Scripps collected over 3,500 food items for FISH to help families in Orion and Oxford Townships! Members of Scripps Student Council created and delivered hand-made Valentines to the seniors at Lake Orion Convalescent Center.
Scripps had 64 students in 14 teams participate in the 2015-2016 Battle of the Books against Oakview, Waldon, and Oakland Christian. The Scripps team Process of Elimination earned first place!
Scripps hosted the author Matt Faulkner on March 11, 2016 as part of the March is Reading Month activities. Mr. Faulkner, author of the graphic novel Gaijin, presented to each of the three grade levels about his creative process, how to become an author, and about the inspiration for some of his work.
The Robot Rebels competed in Troy at the Sharkfest. They placed first in Robot Per-formance with a top score of 591 (next closest team was 505). They also received a trophy for Strategy and Innovation. They made it to the state competition in Monroe, MI on December 12th! There are 7 students from Scripps - Conner C., Caleb C., Elianna C., Alex G., Amanda G., Matthew S. and Dylan P., Zach K. is from Waldon Middle School. Nathan K. is from Stadium Elementary. Lind-say S. is from Pine Tree Elementary.
The Scripps Choir program has earned a certificate of merit for an Excellent performance at the MSVMA District Choral Festival twelve out of the last fifteen years, and have also participated with distinction in the MSVMA State Choral Festival (2004, 2007 & 2012). Our singers have enjoyed seven recent destination performances (Mackinac Music Clinic, Vander cook College of Music- Chicago, IL), including in 2016. We are also very proud of our active student solo and small ensemble participation at MSVMA Solo & Ensemble, and in 2016 all participants earned a certificate of merit for an Excellent performance.
