Learning Options High School

Learning Options High School, staffed by dedicated and certified district educators, provides students with a highly structured, disciplined and results-oriented learning environment designed to challenge them each day.  Those who complete the requirements for graduation receive a Lake Orion Community Schools’ diploma.

Our school, located at Lake Orion’s Community Education Resource Center, takes a unique, hybrid approach to alternative high school education.  Unlike some districts that exclusively use web-based tools to teach students, Learning Options blends traditional classroom instruction with online learning.  This promotes student connections with educators, greater accountability and participation, plus a better understanding of the instructional material being taught.  A total of 24 credits are needed to graduate and receive a diploma from Learning Options High School.  This is aligned with other leading alternative high school programs in Oakland County and meets all of the requirements set forth by the Michigan Merit Curriculum.

Students from both the Lake Orion school district and neighboring communities are welcome at Learning Options.  To be accepted into the school, students must complete an application and screening process. They are accepted based on past academic, attendance and behavioral records.  Students who are accepted into the high school are expected to meet the high academic, attendance and behavioral standards set forth by the staff.  The Learning Options experience promotes a sense of pride and accomplishment among students, as well as the building of important social connections with peers and educators who want them to succeed.
