SECONDARY SCHOOL INFORMATION

Middle Schools

 

Each Lake Orion middle school houses grades 6-8 in which students are assigned to teams for their core academic classes (Science, Social Studies, Math and Language Arts). Throughout their three years in middle school, students develop new areas of interest through a variety of exploratory and elective classes including modern languages, art, technology and computer applications, life management and physical education. The three schools offer a wide range of clubs, sports, intramural activities and extracurricular activities.

 

 

Middle schools are accredited by the State of Michigan and adhere to the State of Michigan academic guidelines.

Opened in the fall of 2002, Oakview is Lake Orion's newest middle school. Oakview was designed by a committee of parents, staff members and students to meet the unique educational needs of middle level students. Our curriculum and programs create a true middle school environment focused on educating the whole child within the team concept and providing opportunities to explore and expand interests.

Waldon Middle School is one of three educational facilities for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders in Lake Orion Community Schools. The school is organized into instructional teams, with each student assigned to a team of teachers for their core academic classes. Students also participate in a variety of exploratory and elective classes that provide diverse educational experiences. The staff at Waldon Middle School is committed to educating students in a way conducive to the unique academic and social needs of the emerging adolescent. The Lake Orion High School is a student-centered facility housing 2400+ students in grades 9-12. Opened in 1997, it has the latest in technology and includes a state-of-the-art auditorium, field house, and natatorium for student and community use. Lake Orion High School was selected as a Michigan Blue Ribbon School and is recognized as a 1999-2000 Blue Ribbon Exemplary School by the U.S. Department of Education. Lake Orion High School offers a broad-based curriculum with numerous options for all students. Specifically in technology, classrooms offer courses for the in-depth study of communication, lasers, power and energy, robotics, construction, manufacturing, and other developing technologies.
