Blanche Sims Elementary hosted the Kinder Kick-Off the past two weeks, giving the incoming kindergarteners an opportunity to acclimate to a full-day experience. The program was started by former Sims principal Jennifer Goethals and is continuing now under principal Ken Nuss.
Goethals started the program with the goal being to teach students the routines and have them get use to the environment.
"The parents love it and the teachers feel like it has made a huge difference for students in their comfort level coming into Kindergarten, and helps the parents get comfortable also," Goethals said.
The program began in 2013 and in 2015 won an Oakland Press Excellence in Education Award.
