The Scripps Middle School Bands had a very successful educational experience at District Band Festival on March 2, held at Lake Orion High School.
The Scripps 7th Grade Band, in their first Festival experience, received significant positive feedback from the adjudicators, particularly in the maturity of their sound and expression for such a young group.
The Scripps Cadet Band received compliments on their "impressive" technique and their ability to interpret the many different styles required by the pieces they performed.
The students were praised for their stage deportment and appearance in addition to their playing.
Both groups also received the same overall grades: 17 As and 3 Bs, with straight As from one Concert judge and straight A's in Sight Reading. This resulted in straight 1s (a Superior rating) from all four judges.
The Cadet Band (8th grade) performed with very challenging music.
This marks the 8th year a row that Scripps has received all 1s with both bands at Festival. The string of Cadet Band receiving a 1 extends to 12 years in a row, and 20 years out of the 21 Scripps has existed.
